CIMS Level 3
CIMS Level 3 is a practical introduction to the Coordinated Incident Management System—New Zealand’s national framework for emergency response. Through real-world scenarios you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the CIMS 3rd Edition framework covering all response functions, incident facilities, common terminology, response levels, incident classifications, iwi involvement, and governance structures. Discover how CIMS works in practice and how you would fit into a wider incident response team.
Duration options: Face to face or virtual – one day
Online: 12 hours self-paced
Delivery: Face to face, virtual or fully online. Face to face or virtual have additional online assessments

CIMS Level 4
CIMS Level 4 provides an in-depth, practical approach to managing a CIMS response. Building on CIMS Level 3 foundations, this course strengthens your understanding of the CIMS framework while focusing on the skills that matter when an incident occurs. Through intensive scenario-based learning, you’ll practice responding to realistic incidents specific to your organization’s actual risks.
Duration: Two days plus online assessments

CIMS Refresher
Scenario-based refresher that keeps you current with changes to NZ’s emergency response system and reinforces core roles and responsibilities of the CIMS Incident Management Team. If completed face to face or virtually, participants will be able to complete desk-top scenarios and update their practical skills.

This practical, scenario-based course introduces you to the Coordinated Incident Management System and shows you exactly how your volunteer role fits within the wider emergency response framework.
